In a meeting held in conjunction with the recent Greater New York Dental Meeting, Shofu, Inc., President Noriyuki Negoro was awarded the title of Regent by the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE). The title is a big honor in the organization that seeks to promote the highest quality in esthetic care via multi-disciplinary approaches.

With a goal of creating new opportunities for clinical education on the topics of dental implants, reconstructive procedures and the technologies powering this growing area of dentistry, BIOMET 3i recently opened the Institute for Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry (IIRD) in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The Elevance Chair was showcased at the Midmark booth at the 2011 Greater New York Dental Show from Nov. 27-30. The chair features cantaliever forward with a low seat height of just 15 inches and can extend to 36 inches.

The Fialkoff Queens Dental Study Club, a monthly study club which provides CE credits to attending practitioners, is planning a humanitarian dental trip to Havana, Cuba in March of 2012. Organized by Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, founder of the study club, the attending dental practitioners will provide pro-bono dental work and dental education to the Cuban lay and professional community; and also donate dental supplies to the University of Havana and their clinics.

Dentistry has undergone some changes over the past five years and has become more conservative, which is good, according to the ever-popular Gordon Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD. Christensen, founder and director of Practical Clinical Courses and senior consultant, CR Foundation-Clinican's Report, was featured at a Monday, Nov. 28, afternoon CE session, "The Christensen Bottom Line - 2011," during the Greater New York Dental Meeting.

During the first day of the Greater New York Dental Meeting, Dr. Frank C. Setzer, Faculty, Endodontics, University of Pennsylvania, presented a wealth of information designed to help clinicians decide which cases are best to treat endodontically and which ones should be handled with an extraction and a subsequent implant.

Among the many products introduced Sunday, Nov. 27, on the opening day of the 2011 Greater New York Dental Meeting was the AnyRidge implant system by MEGA'Gen. The system can place an implant wider than the ridge crest; provide increased bone preservation by removing less bone; establish immediate implant stability without pressure necrosis. There are 55 implant options using only one single kit.

CAD/CAM technology has made plenty of headway in the dental industry and computer-designed crowns are certainly nothing new, but now researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden are working on a system for computer design of preps as well.
