I can't let today (March 2), go by without wishing the departed Dr. Seuss a happy birthday. And, though my kids and I have plans to go see The Lorax in theaters tomorrow, I won't quote any of the lines from that memorable environmentalist tale. With an eye toward enhancing the efficiency of its all-digital workflows, Sun dental Labs recently announced the addition of several 3D Systems 3D printers to its technology portfolio. The Florida-based, international full-service lab plans to use the printers in production of both fixed restorations and removable appliances.

In another technology partnership advancing the trend of new connections between leading CAD/CAM technologies, Sirona and Objet announced that Objet's 3D printing systems are now approved for the manufacture of printed dental models based on data in Sirona's design software. This is another step in the selectively open future of digital dentistry with technology companies carefully vetting each other's systems to create pathways for data transfer.

The total just keep climbing for the partnership between Heraeus Precious Metal Refining and the Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology, as today it was announced that last year donations from the refining branch of Heraeus Kulzer to the foundation were close to $20,000.

ImageWorks is pleased to announce its agreement in principal to sell its NewTom distribution division to Cefla.

Now located under the same roof, dental equipment retailer Harris Discount Supply and precious metals company Baker Dental Corp. recently moved into a new warehouse facility in Lake Zurich, Ill. Both companies have been a part of the industry for many years and according to the press release their new shared home has room for them to expand their offerings.   Free Dental Exams at University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Students need patients and patients need oral care, so if you're in the Chicago area, you'll want to look into the free limited dental screening exams offered at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry. Patients are needed by dental students for licensing exam. Must be age 18 or older. Screening includes free faculty selected x-rays and limited screening exam.

Today 3M ESPE announced that more than 100,000 digital impressions have been captured via the company's Lava Chairside Oral Scanner C.O.S. systems. This worldwide milestone was reached when Dr. Richard Cordano captured an impression with the C.O.S. he had added to his practice last October.
