The Key Group will release its first professional dental market research report that will be part of an annual series covering brand equity and loyalty measurement by leading competitors in top dental products categories. Containing data from over 500 U.S. dentists and hygienists, the report should provide dental professionals a valued resource. In a great move that benefits the dental lab industry, dentists and patients, Vident recently signed on to join the IdentAlloy/IdentCeram Council and will begin providing certificates confirming the contents of the materials they use from Vident.

The School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, is recruiting applicants for MS, phD, and postdoctoral positions in dental informatics. The program is open to professionals with a variety of backgrounds and financial support is available through the National Institutes of Health. The program starts this August.

The day started early for the technicians and lab owners attending the 8th Annual Dental Laboratory Owners Association of California CAD/CAM Expo & Symposium, but the sizable crowd was in store for a day packed with details on the latest in dental lab technology and opportunities to meet with the range of companies selling scanners, mills, materials and associated products.

Three years after selling his successful implant firm IMTEC to 3M, Dr. Ronald A. Bulard has re-entered the dental products and implants arenas with the purchase of Park Dental Research from that company's founder Dr. Jack Wimmer. The Oklahoma-based company officially opened its doors under Dr. Bulard's leadership on Oct. 1.

Information revealed in a 2008 study from Pediatric Dentistry will undoubtedly cause new moms to fight the urge to kiss their infants on the mouth. Research shows that sharing utensils and on-the-mouth kisses can lead to cavities through the transfer of saliva. Mutans streptococci, the cavity-causing bacteria, can be passed from a child's mother or father during every day activities like blowing on food to cool if off, sharing utensils and even sharing on-the-mouth kisses.
