Do you believe that the lips are part of what dental professionals should be checking when their dental patients come into the practice?
If so, what are you doing to talk to your patients about protecting those lips during all of the outdoor fun that goes along with summertime activities?
I recently sat down with Anastasia Turchetta, RDH, to talk about the key role that dental professionals can play when it comes to educating their patients about protecting their lips from harmful UV rays.
“As summer really kicks into high gear, dental professionals need to be looking extraorally at their patients’ lips,” Turchetta said. “I’m surprised at the stats I found regarding sunburned lips and the health damage it can cause, but that along with so many other things in the dental practice start with educating our patients.”

In this video, Turchetta talks about how you can educate your patients to keep their lips “kissable” and healthy, throughout the summer and beyond. She also discusses why it’s important for dental practices to make the lips a part of their current check-up routine.
