Cancer Network, home of the journal ONCOLOGY, reports elective lymph node dissection surgery during the study was shown to improve survival and lower recurrence rates.

For every eight patients who participate in the surgery, one death is prevented, according to lead author Anil D'Cruz, MBBS, MS, FRCS, professor and chief of the department of head and neck surgery at Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, India. In addition, for every four patients who participate in the surgery, one recurrence is prevented.
