Clinpro 5000

Said to deliver fluoride, strengthen enamel and reverse early white spot lesions, Clinpro™ 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste features a proprietary tri-calcium phosphate ingredient. A protective barrier is created around the calcium during manufacturing to allow it to coexist with the fluoride ions. This barrier breaks down when it comes in contact with saliva, allowing remineralization to occur.

Dr. Tim Burke noticed something right away when he began using 3M ESPE’s Clinpro 5000 anti-cavity toothpaste about a year-and- a-half ago: His patients were actually complying with their home care.

Patient compliance was always a problem with similar products he’s used in the past, so finding something patients actually would use at home has made such a huge difference in the clinical results they’re seeing. So what makes this anti-cavity toothpaste different? Here’s what Dr. Burke had to say.

What do you like about Clinpro 5000 toothpaste? What are the main benefits for your patients?

This takes the place of regular toothpaste, which makes it easier for patients to use. I’ve seen changes in radiographs after six months, and I’ve seen big changes in patients who have used it for a year, more than I ever expected. I tell patients if they use this they won’t have to come in for fillings as often. And patients are definitely using it. If you look at the x-ray and tell them they don’t have to come back in for a filling, they love that. Clinpro 5000 toothpaste is also a lot easier to use. Instead of using toothpaste and flossing and then rinsing and then using something else, they can use Clinpro 5000 as their toothpaste. It’s definitely a time savings and overall it saves the patient money too.

Why would you encourage other clinicians to use this in their practice?

Clinpro™ 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste Mainly because of the compliance. They use it. We don’t have to keep asking them why they aren’t using it all the time. We used to get complaints that other materials were too sweet or hard to use or they just didn’t want to use two toothpastes. That isn’t a problem with Clinpro 5000 toothpaste. It also keeps them on track for hygiene visits. A tube lasts six months so they’ll call in and say “I’m out of toothpaste so it must be time for a cleaning.”

Why have you selected this product over other competitive prescription dentifrices?

It makes our job easier for one thing. I don’t have to keep getting after people to use it, and it works. I’m seeing on x-rays when patients come back that things are getting better. My dad was a dentist and he had a sign that said, “there is nothing we can do at the office that makes up for what patients won’t do at home.” That’s so true. We tell them to do this and floss and it will keep them out of the chair to get fillings. And they’re actually using it. That makes me really happy.

It’s also cheaper than fillings. It doesn’t take too many fillings to come up with enough to buy a life time supply. It has good results with seniors too. Many medicines cause dry mouth, which is a huge problem. We have seniors using Clinpro 5000 toothpaste and we’re seeing improvement in the rate of root caries. We tell anybody who has crowns or any kind of large fillings to use it, too. Compliance over all is far better than any of the other products I have tried.
