In the field of laser dentistry, patients and dentists are seeing benefits associated with the advancements in laser technology. Soft-tissue lasers cause far less patient discomfort with the ability to achieve simultaneous cutting and coagulation. The Food and Drug Administration has cleared the use of dental lasers in more than 20 dental procedures.

In restorative dentistry, close attention must be paid not only to the restoration, but to the area surrounding the restoration as well. This type of thinking should be applied to provide the esthetics and functionality the patient seeks. Therefore, to provide the best in patient comfort and minimally invasive procedures, practitioners must maintain familiarity with the newest instruments and techniques available through innovation and product development.

The state of the dental laboratory industry always has been evolving, with some areas evolving faster than others depending on the needs and focus of labs, whether those needs be to increase productivity, quality or both. We have seen porcelain, impression materials, die-stone and other staples make dramatic advancements. But while these advancements enabled us to improve our product, our techniques largely remained the same. We waxed, invested, cast, completed temporaries, baked and stained porcelain the way it had been done for many years. 

Dr. Mark Colonna lives and practices in Whitefish, Mo., a small community of 6,300 only a few minutes’ drive from stunning Glacier National Park. The park encompasses 1,013,572 acres of alpine forest, snow-capped peaks and 37 glaciers. Despite the ruggedness of the land, Dr. Colonna’s practice is anything but rustic. He is a strong advocate of laser dentistry, being the first dentist to use only a laser to prep a crown, and he uses the cloud to manage his practice.

John Just named Laserdenta Director of Tech Support/Service Laserdenta Inc. President Brian F. Binnie announced the appointment of John Just, CDT, as Director of Technical Support and Services at the Laserdenta Inc. North American Education and Technical Center in Brea, Calif. John brings both I.T. knowledge as a Micro Soft Beta Tester, but also the years of knowledge and experience he has had as a Dental Technician and Laboratory Owner.

While AADOM attendees participated in advanced training sessions hosted by XLDent, Dentrix and Eaglesoft on Thursday afternoon, the exhibitors took some time to get to know each other during this year’s Industry Summit.
