February 16th 2017The study on the potential impact of doctors who frequently prescribe opioids was published Wednesday, Feb. 16 in the New England Journal of Medicine. It is believed to be the first of its kind, examining the validity of the assumption that addiction often begins with legitimate prescriptions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 15,000 people in the U.S. overdosed on opioids in 2015.
