Five years ago one of my patients, Kim, asked if she was a candidate for LUMINEERS-not the traditional veneers I had recommended-after she saw an ad in Ladies Home Journal. My comfort zone was doing traditional veneers that I had been doing for the past 20+ years, and I felt confident in my abilities to properly place these in my patients’ mouths who wanted a smile makeover done.

Making the move

I decided to take a 2-day course and see what all the buzz was about in February of 2006. My 18-year-old daughter had been born with defective enamel on her upper and lower 8 incisors and I did not want to do traditional veneer preps for fear of exposing one or more of her pulps. I also saw the landscape was changing and patients were seeking minimally invasive procedures to give them a beautiful, healthy smile, and I was looking for alternatives to traditional veneer techniques that were beginning to wear me out after 24 years of placing all the different systems on the market.

Great results

After I took the course and saw the benefits of saving tooth structure while using this natural looking, leucite reinforced patented pressed feldspathic porcelain, I began to market it within my own practice. My own daughter, Grace, was a “test case” to see if this would actually give me natural looking results that her gingival tissues would accept and not become inflamed or irritated without creating subgingival margins. The results shocked me and her smile was gorgeous. She had natural looking emergence profiles, well defined line angles and a fit that looked great! I began to realize there was a better, safer, non-invasive way to give my patients the smile they always hoped they could have but were so often afraid to ask for because of the process involved with traditional veneers.

Why I would recommend this product

LUMINEERS porcelain looks and feels like enamel and the porcelain is more translucent than the veneer systems I had been using the last 24 years. LUMINEERS not only dramatically changes the appearance of teeth, they strengthen them as well.

In 2008 DenMat developed a digital veneer system where an entire arch of veneers could be designed, processed  and cemented using this digital system. For the first time since  I graduated from dental school I could see, change and then approve the final result. Then the veneers are loaded into a LUMITray™ tray that allows me to seat up to 10 of these naturally looking veneers and take all the stress and uncertainty of cementing multiple units away. I can place and finish up to 10 veneers in a little over one hour!
