What does Dr. John Flucke, DDS, think of the new DEXIS CariVu caries detection device? He gets truly honest about the product in this featured Google Hangout video interview with Dental Products Report Content Director, Kevin Henry.
Dr. John Flucke, DDS, says dentistry is always trying to deal with the message of “radiation dosage” in a positive manner - trying to get the most clinical information with the least amount of radiation. That’s one of the first perks he finds with CariVu from DEXIS. Radiation isn’t necessary.
“One of the great things about CariVu,” Flucke says, “is that it’s a transillumination device. It literally uses near-infrared light and it still allows you to … look for caries.” In the past, he explains, the outcomes that are now reached with CariVu used to be limited to only means of imaging with radiation.
With the help of new near-infrared transillumination technology, such as the technology used in the CariVu device, dental professionals can detect a range of carious lesions and cracks - all without the need of ionizing radiation associated with X-rays.
