Interview with Douglas Muller, President of Astron Dental…

Your family has a long history in the industry, correct?

That’s right. My dad started Astron Dental in 1967 and only just retired about 15 years ago. My brother Bob and I have both been with Astron for more than 30 years. Delivering results to the dental market is in our blood.

In a highly competitive market place, why should a lab tech give your products a second look?

We don’t make “me too” products at Astron. We make unique products that are better than what is out there so the dental lab can charge a premium and make more money for the lab.

What do you bring to the table in terms of customer service?

When a customer calls Astron a REAL person answers the phone. You don’t go through the corporate phone maze to place an order, pay a bill or get tech help.

What part of your business has experienced the most growth in the last several years?

Our biggest growth is in MMA free dentures, nightguards and flexible partials.

To what would you attribute the trend?

I think people in general are more aware of MMA, BPA and Phalates. None of our lab products contain any of those chemicals.

What can we look forward to from Astron in the future?

We will be adding to our product line more MMA-free denture materials, softliners and a denture/nightguard cleaner.
