To learn more about how Henry Schein Practice Solutions is broadening practice management software options more than ever before, DPR sat down with Rhett Burnham, Director of Product Management, Practice Management Solutions.
DPR: You’re already a market leader with Dentrix®. Why launch two new game-changing systems- Dentrix Ascend™ and Viive-into the practice management software mix?
Rhett: It’s all about giving choices to dentists. Dentrix is the right choice for practices that want the market leader, with robust features that focus on helping practices boost profitability. However, to fill the needs of a growing share of practices that want a cloud-based solution, we developed Dentrix Ascend and launched it late last year.
Other practices are moving to Mac computers, because they’re accustomed to the way Macs work and want the Mac experience. For them, we offer Viive, an elegant Mac system we launched in 2012.
DPR: What about Dentrix Ascend? Are dentists ready for the cloud?
Rhett: The cloud offers dentists many advantages, such as the flexibility to access practice data from anywhere and any device, a pay-as-you-go monthly subscription and significantly reduced IT hassles, to name a few. Many of our users told us they want to move their practice management system to the cloud, but only with a company like Henry Schein, which can ensure their long-term success.
With Dentrix Ascend, dentists get a completely reimagined interface that guides staff through a natural workflow, a system that lets them focus on patients instead of technology and one low price. It’s perfect for those who want a practice management solution in a surprisingly easy-to-use system.
DPR: What trends in Mac use influenced your decision to launch Viive?
Rhett: Many people today have surrounded themselves with Apple products in their personal lives and at school. They love their iPhones and iPads, and now dentists are taking their Macs into their practice. As more Mac enthusiasts enter dentistry, they are embracing Viive as a viable Mac-based practice management alternative. Viive is the ideal choice for dentists who want the benefits of the Mac in their practice-a system that works the way they like to work.
DPR: What’s the one thing you want people to know about Henry Schein’s practice management software?
Rhett: We listen, because we believe dentists should have the freedom to practice dentistry their way. Henry Schein gives them the ability to use the type of computer or platform that fits their practice, whether that platform is Mac, Windows or the cloud. We also design our software to deliver the features that dentists need.
We’re constantly meeting with our customers to hear their voices through advisory boards and at events such as the Dentrix Business of Dentistry Conference taking place in Las Vegas next month. We get feedback from beta testers and focus groups prior to launching any new product or update. We have an online “suggestion box” so customers can request product enhancements or submit ideas for doing things better. This allows us to create innovative solutions, like Dentrix Ascend and Viive, which give dentists more choices.
