Not having the correct forms on file can lead to trouble. In this week’s Morning Huddle, Ali Oromchian Esq. discusses the importance of the I-9.

As part of our Morning Huddle e-newsletter, DPR partnered with notable practice management consultants to provide quick video tips to get your team talking.

When hiring a new employee, there are new hire documents that both your state and the federal government require. Here, Ali Oromchian, Esq. stresses the importance of the I-9 immigration document.

Every state has some new hire documents that are required and the federal government has some additional ones. The one document that I want to bring your attention that is of real importance is the I-9.

"The I-9 is an immigration document that verifies that your employee is authorized to work in the U.S.

So, why is this important?

It’s important because hiring an illegal immigrant can be a felony in the U.S. So every year we have a couple of instances around the country where we have to go defend our doctors against this issue. And although we are able to get them off without them losing their license, it is a very real possibility.

Verification is absolutely a necessity.  Make sure you are seeing the real documents as opposed to any photocopies before putting them in their file."

Mr. Oromchian is the Co-Founder at HR for Health, and Partner at Dental & Medical Counsel, PC. He is a graduate of the University of California at Davis, where he received a dual Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Political Science and Rhetoric & Communications.
