Here, Carrie Webber of Jameson Consulting offers several simple, practical ways to celebrate the wins in your practice, whether that be accomplishing a goal, improving a process, or putting a new service into effect. Take time to talk about upcoming goals and put a plan together to recognize success.
It is very important that your team members take the time and effort to reach around and pat themselves on the back.
If you wait for others to recognize your work, you may wait for a very long time. Too often, others are quick to criticize but slow to praise. So, when you’ve accomplished a goal, improved your processes, installed a new system or put a new service into effect, you should celebrate the event. Congratulate yourselves, throw a party, go out to lunch or order a pizza.
Many team members work behind the scenes. They aren’t on the front lines getting immediate feedback from patients. They don’t have the visibility and may not get kudos.

They keep the ship afloat by making sure that bills are paid on time, payroll is completed and checks go out, information is distributed accurately and in a timely fashion. As the saying goes, no one ever calls to say “thanks for getting my check to me on time.” It’s just expected.
Think of examples of this in your own practice. How can you express appreciation for one another more effectively? It can be as simple as saying “thank you” or “great job” or it can be on a larger scale with gifts.
Have your own celebrations when certain milestones are accomplished. Remember to express gratitude for the every day activities that make it possible for you to perform excellently. Always remember to be a role model; an example. If you pat others on the back, you set the tone for them to do the same thing to you and one another.
Before you start your day, take a few minutes to talk about some upcoming events or accomplishments and ways you and your team would like to celebrate them. Put a plan together and put someone in charge of making sure to follow through with the actions. Simply repeat this process on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and you’re on your way to celebrating success, creating a happy and healthy work environment and improving the lives of your colleagues.
Every victory, every achievement and every win - no matter if it’s large or small - deserve a “job well done.” What can you celebrate as you make this a great week?
