Since its inception, the Affordable Care Act has been a concept that dental practices have struggled at times to understand and implement.
Colleen Huff, FAADOM, has been tracking how the Affordable Care Act has affected dental practices and she sat down with me to talk about it, how it is changing, and some of the biggest mistakes that dental practices are making when it comes to the ACA.
As you well know, many dental customers don’t know much about their dental insurance or the benefits that lie within it. Therefore, it often falls to the dental team to be as educated as they can about insurance and help their patients understand what might be covered … as well as what might not. Additionally, with some of the changes that have happened with the ACA, keeping up with the latest news and tweaks are vitally important for the dental practitioner.

When Colleen and I spoke about this, one of the things that jumped out to me the most is how the front desk is really in the crosshairs when it comes to not only the ACA but helping patients understand their insurance coverage as a whole. It’s often a very tricky position for the front desk to be in, so Colleen and I chatted about some ideas that could help make life easier up front as well as for the patient when it comes to the ACA.
Additionally, I should note the “FAADOM” that comes after Colleen’s name, meaning she has completed her Fellowship in the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM). We are proud to be the exclusive media partners of AADOM and constantly amazed by the wealth of knowledge this association provides to its members throughout the year. If your office manager and/or front desk isn’t involved with AADOM, please click here to learn more about it and why it can help your practice grow.
