Sumita Mitra

The European Patent Office (EPO) announced chemist Sumita Mitra has been nominated as a finalist in the “Non-EPO countries” category of the European Inventor Award 2021.

Mitra applied nanotechnology to the production of dental materials which led to the creation of a new composite. This composite, commercialized as the Filtek Supreme Universal Restorative, is stronger, versatile, and does not lose polish as easily as conventional composites, according to a press release from the EPO.

The winners of the innovation prizes will be announced at a digital ceremony on June 19.
