// Intraoral Scanning System

Primescan® 2 Powered by DS Core
Powered by the company’s DS Core cloud platform, Primescan 2 is a cloud-native wireless intraoral scanner capable of scanning on any internet-connected mobile or desktop device— without needing a dedicated computer. The versatile and innovative intraoral scanner is designed to deliver improved workflow efficiency and extended treatment capabilities, and when compared to Primescan AC and Primescan Connect, the new scanner allows practices to expand the services they offer to patients and grow their business, according to the company. Additionally, improved communication and diagnostic tools help dental professionals deliver a high standard of care and comfort. Benefits to clinicians include hardware-independence, versatility, simple handling, fast workflow (a full arch scan can be taken in less than 1 minute while delivering optimal accuracy), ease of delegation, always up to date (DS Core always runs on the latest version), primary storage in the cloud, and reliable hygiene. Primescan 2 is based on the patented scanning technology of Primescan — combining the speed, accuracy, and ease of use of the company’s original scanner with new cloud-native capabilities made possible through direct integration with DS Core. As a cloud-native intraoral scanner, the device allows dental professionals to scan anytime, anywhere — including visits to hospitals, partner practices, or labs — using any laptop, computer, tablet, or other internet-connected device at hand. The scan data is automatically processed and stored on DS Core, meaning that patient consultations, lab ordering, and treatment ?planning can take place independently on any internet-connected device available. Additionally, the size and outer shape of the scanner tip have been redesigned with Primescan 2 making intraoral scanning more comfortable for patients — helping clinicians easily scan molars and hard-to-reach distal surfaces.

Expedition

Imaging company PreXion has announced the launch of its Expedition CBCT Scanner. The Expedition is designed to produce vivid, high-quality images utilizing its IGZO flat panel detector (FPD). IGZO is named for the indium, gallium, zinc, and oxide that are contained inside the FPD. The IGZO FPD is designed for enhanced power-savings, using more current and reducing scatter, according to PreXion. This higher quality image can improve diagnostics in the dental practice while reducing power consumption. Expedition maintains 4 fields of view, including 5x5cm, 8x8cm,12.5x10cm, and an optional 15x15cm, giving clinicians a wide range of imaging capabilities to suit their specific practice’s needs ranging from general diagnostics to endodontics to implants and more, per PreXion. The open-source platform is designed to be compatible with most DICOM merging software. It reportedly requires no graphics card updates to operate. Purchase of the Expedition also comes with a 10 year all-parts warranty.
