HuFriedyGroup releases new Harmony Ergonomic Scaler, which uses TrueFit Technology to reduce the amount of force clinicians need to apply.
The dental division of Cantel Medical Corp., HuFriedyGroup, introduced its new line of Harmony™ Ergonomic Scalers and Curettes, the company announced in a statement.
HuFriedyGroup developed the Harmony Scaler using TrueFit™ Technology, said to provide true ergonomic benefits driven by scientific evidence. This sensor-based testing system is designed to measure pinch force in the finger and pressure applied to the tooth when scaling. TrueFit Technology was used to develop a scaler handle with optimal proportions and ideal width that provides a secure grip, the statement read.
"We set out with the goal of developing a new scaler that would provide scientifically proven ergonomic benet for clinicians, improving their experience and that of the patient as well," said Stacie Barth, vice president, global strategic business unit, HuFriedyGroup. "Our rigorous, data-supported design process is a novel approach for the industry, and the results speak for themselves. More than ever, clinicians and dental hygienists need to feel comfortable with their instruments, and the new Harmony Scaler is designed precisely to improve their daily working experience."
HuFriedyGroup relied on a global group of hygienists to participate in the testing and development of the design process. The company worked with a third-party analytic firm to review and analyze the data collected from this group of hygienists, which resulted in over 2.8 million data points.
The result was pure harmony, a handle that is designed to reduce pinch force by up to 65%, reducing the amount of pressure a clinician needs to apply when using the instrument. This may help alleviate hand fatigue and injury risk due to repetitive motion, according to the statement from HuFriedyGroup.
The Harmony Ergonomic Scalers and Curettes feature EverEdge™ 2.0 Working Ends, which are said to be 72% and contributes to creating a more comfortable experience for patients and clinicians.
The Harmony’s durable metal handle features a recessed double-helix texture, which is designed for optimal tactile sensitivity and to reduce tactile fatigue. The silicone grip has been expanded by 30% and clinicians are said to be able to comfortably maneuver and roll the scaler due to the round shape of the handle and the smooth transition to the functional shank.
The Harmony Scaler is available with 30 unique working end options, including Sickles, Universals, and Graceys, and is available for immediate purchase in the US from authorized HuFriedyGroup representatives or distributors.
