Endomimetics and BISCO team up to create a powerful, research-based novel bioactive Direct Pulp Capping material.
Bionanomatrix™ developer Endomimetics has announced that it will begin a research collaboration with restorative developer BISCO. This collaboration has been formed to support the development of a dental application for the Bionanomatrix technology, according to a press release from Endomimetics. It’s made possible by a $350,000 funding from Endomimetics and BISCO matched by an Alabama Research and Development Enhancement Fund (ARDEF) grant, allowing for a grand total of $700,000 to develop a novel bioactive Direct Pulp Capping (DPC) material. Research will be conducted in the laboratory of Kyounga Cheon, DMD, MS, Associate Professor of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Alabama, Birmingham.
“Our Bionanomatrix technology is designed to improve healing and patient outcomes for a wide range of devices and surgical applications,” CEO of Endomimetics Joseph Gardner, PhD says in the press release. “The matching funds provided by Endomimetics and BISCO for Dr Cheon ARDEF grant will provide additional support for her research and, hopefully, result in a viable product candidate to improve dental care.”
The main goal of developing a novel DPC material can be achieved through the improvement of bioactivity of the pulp tissue. This collaboration aims to overcome the current limitations of bioceramic materials including the mechanical properties and cost effectiveness.
Development on this bioactive DPC begins this year and is projected to run for 2 years.
