This Wednesday, I’m heading down to New Orleans for my first-ever American Dental Association Annual Session. But just because I’m green doesn’t mean I’m not heading in with a plan or things to do– some of the biggest and best brands in the dental industry will be showing off new and recently launched products, and I’ll be checking out as many as I can. Read on to find out what products and events are on my list for the ADA session and should be on your radar, too.

Products
Imprint™ 4 VPS Impression Material
All the news around latest this Imprint impression material emphasizes the speed with which it sets – so much so that 3M ESPE even chose a cheetah to serve as the product’s mascot in marketing materials. Speed’s not everything, though, and Imprint 4 is said to offer the same great lasting time dentists have come to expect from previous versions of the product. I’ll be meeting with the people from 3M ESPE on Thursday to learn more about this product, as well as get a peek at another brand new connection for the 3M True Definition Scanner. Stay tuned.

Ti-Max X450 dental handpieces
Comprised of nine total models, NSK Dental’s new Ti-Max X450 45-degree air-driven handpieces offer 21 watts of power throughout the entire line of optic and non-optic versions. They are also compatible with a wide range of couplers and offer uniform head size, water jet ports, ergonomic titanium bodies, and a two-year warranty. As you know, the best way to get a handle on handpieces is in person, so I’m going to make sure I stop by the NSK booth and try these out myself. Watch for a possible video demonstration on Thursday or Friday!

CS WinOMS Cloud and a new CS Solutions product line
On Thursday, I’m meeting with the folks from Carestream Dental to get the scoop on CS WinOMS Cloud practice management solution, as well as a new product line for CS Solutions. CS WinOMS Cloud stores applications, patient information and data in one place, providing dental teams with 24/7 access to needed files from any device with an internet connection. Plus, sensitive patient and practice management files are backed up and maintained by Carestream Dental with HIPAA-compliant storage. I’ll hopefully be able to demo both products during my meeting, so stay tuned for my impressions on that.

Aquasil Ultra Cordless is said to be the first tissue managing impression system that does not require tissue retraction. The cordless one-step system places high tear strength wash material into the sulcus without paste to deliver reportedly accurate marginal detail. My invitation to this press conference asks me to meet ‘Floyd the Retraction Cord Monster,’ so I’m looking forward to seeing what that’s all about.
Events
2013 Distinguished Speaker: Bill Clinton
I’m hoping to use my press pass to get into President Clinton’s event, but I’m sure even then it will be a challenge. Should I manage to finagle my way, his remarks will most certainly be one of the first things I’ll report back on. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.
Pride Institute Reception
On Friday afternoon, I’m heading to a reception held by the Pride Institute celebrating the 2013 winners of the ‘Best In Class’ award. The reception will give me a chance to see some of the winning products up close – including the 3Shape TRIOS Color, DEXIS Imaging Suite, Kerr Dental SonicFill, and more – plus meet with many of the people responsible for bringing these innovative products to market.

After Hours
I’ve never been to New Orleans, so I’d feel remiss if I didn’t try to absorb at least some of the local flavor while I’m in town. For this, I’m lucky enough to be able to follow the advice of DPR Group Editorial Director Kevin Henry as he lists where to eat (and hear some great jazz) in the Big Easy. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Is there anything you’d like Michael Quirk to go see or do while at the show? Leave your request in the comments and he’ll try to get to it while he’s at event!
