3Shape partners with GuardLab for custom sports mouthguards

The mouthguards will be created using TRIOS scanners and CAD/CAM software from 3Shape.

GuardLab’s custom sports mouthguards will be created using technology from 3Shape thanks to a new partnership between the two companies.

Under the new partnership, GuardLab will use 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanners to capture a digital impression of the athlete’s teeth, and then will use 3Shape CAD/CAM software to design the custom mouthguards, according to a press release from 3Shape.

GuardLab selected 3Shape as a partner because the TRIOS is a fast and accurate scanner that is more comfortable for the athletes than the traditional methods using impression materials. The partnership is also expected to make the GuardLab mouthguard production workflow faster and more predictable.

The custom mouthguards feature ARC (Alignment Repositioning Cushion) technology that is designed to provide enhanced muscle stability, improved airflow, and reduced TMJ tension for athletes.

Dental practices using TRIOS scanners can join the GuardLab Dental Network to offer custom mouthguards to patients with digital impression scans being sent directly to GuardLab from the 3Shape Communicate software.
