Jana Berghoff is a registered dental hygienist who has worked in both the practice management and clinical sides of dentistry. Currently she is working on the technological side as the Technology Marketing Manager for Patterson Dental, and she attributes her success to the tools she took advantage of during her education and the new learning opportunities she seeks out every day.
“Now, it’s not just books and lectures. There are so many learning opportunities, and it’s important to really take advantage and to buckle down and educate yourself, because you never really know where your career is going to take you,” she said.
As a professional, she has always worked to stay up to date with what is happening in dentistry so she can react when the time is right.
“I wasn’t afraid to take the steps that I needed to keep my skills active and to make myself indispensible in the workspace,” she said.
Berghoff has also worked hard to stay in touch with the ever-changing technologies available today.
“When people look at me and hear that my specialty is technology, they don’t always think someone my age will be as well-versed in this category,” she said. “But because I’ve sought out continuing education opportunities to keep growing my knowledge, neither age nor gender has come into consideration.”
According to Berghoff, her fondness of learning makes her job enjoyable because she loves bringing technology into the dental office, and no matter how many years she’s been in the job she is constantly learning from the professionals she encounters.
As a woman, she finds inspiration in the other vibrant women she’s worked with throughout her career, and she is glad to surround herself with strong people who have drive and ambition.
“The opportunities are endless for women in dentistry,” she said. “Dentistry is a very rewarding profession. Make your career what you want it to be.
