One clinician’s take on how The Wand STA improves his efficiency, delivers comfort to a diverse patient base.

Like all dentists, Dr. Gordon Chiu knows the importance of delivering not only gentle dental injections, but ones that you can consistently trust to produce profound anesthesia. That’s why Dr. Chiu, a general dentist from Homestead. Fla., who also serves as a Dental Officer with the U.S. Army Reserves Dental Corps, decided to try out The Wand STA All-Injection System around 2010.

How did you first learn of The Wand STA and why did you decide to implement the technology into your practice?

I had seen ads in dental trade magazines for The Wand STA and various other dental injection devices in the past. I was attracted to the more comfortable injection protocol, the immediate onset of profound anesthesia, and the ability to work on multiple quadrants of the mouth in a single appointment using The Wand STA unit. While at the same time, this system can be used for all traditional blocks if desired.

What do you like best about using The Wand STA?

There are multiple reasons why we have given up the traditional dental syringe in favor of The Wand STA. The injection protocol is much more comfortable to patients and some do not even realize they have been given an injection.

Patients are pleased to find out they are generally able to eat immediately after a procedure rather than wait for the anesthetic block to wear off. In the case of children, there is no chance of lip or tongue trauma from biting after a STA injection for mandibular teeth due to the ability to avoid a mandibular block. I also work with the developmentally disabled. The Wand STA is more comfortable and much less intimidating than the traditional syringe, which helps in the care and management of these clients.

The Wand® STA® All-Injection System

A pain-free practice builder, The Wand STA All-Injection System allows clinicians to gently, precisely, and quickly administer all dental injections without the fear and anxiety of traditional syringes. Single tooth, palatal and infiltration injections are performed painlessly and without collateral numbness of the cheeks, lip, and tongue, preserving natural smile lines and offering patients a more pleasant experience during and after procedures.

The immediate onset of profound anesthesia means no waiting time. Significantly boost production by performing bi-lateral dentistry in a single appointment, reduce chair time, increase referrals, and experience fewer patient cancelations. Easy to use, the training mode literally talks the user through each step of the delivery process. Available exclusively through Aseptico, The Wand and replacement handpieces are made and serviced in the USA.

How has patient response been and would you recommend this product to colleagues?

Patient response has been great! The injection protocol is much more comfortable to patients, even when used for traditional dental blocks. While there is a slight learning curve, I highly recommend The Wand STA. Along with improved efficiency, The Wand is more comfortable and much less intimidating than the traditional syringe.
