According to the American Dental Association, more than 200,000 injuries could be prevented each year if an athlete was wearing a mouthguard. With this statistic in mind, Anastasia Turchetta, RDH, believes there is an opportunity for dental practices throughout the nation to “do well by doing good.”

With this statistic in mind, Anastasia Turchetta, RDH, believes there is an opportunity for dental practices throughout the nation to “do well by doing good.”
In the video interview below, Turchetta talks about the various kinds of mouthguards available, as well as the importance of dental professionals talking to parents and student-athletes as the beginning of the school year creeps closer.
“Dental injuries can cost thousands of dollars, and that’s a good reason for hygienists and dentists to talk to their patients about the importance of using a mouthguard,” Turchetta said. “We want that child’s dentition to be protected, and with so many mouthguard options available, there is one that fits every parent’s budget … but it’s up to us as dental professionals to start the conversation.”
Turchetta also discusses an app available on the iTunes store from Keystone Industries where, with the shutter click of an iPhone or iPad, patients can see what they would look like wearing a Pro-form mouthguard.
