Variolink II was the first resin cement I trusted to bond my ceramic restorations when I started my career. Multilink Automix caught my attention as a product born from the very successful Variolink system and the self-etch chemistry ofAdheSE. There are many universal, all-in-one, resin cements out there, and they are not created equal.

What would you say are its best qualities?

This system uses a primer that increases bond strengths and reliably seals the dentin. The primer incorporates the smear layer and doesn’t expose dentin tubules so that sensitivity is not an issue. The real advantage is that it will bond to any material!

How does Multilink Automix compare to earlier versions of resin cements and its competitors?

Some of the other products on the market that are in the same category have very low bond strengths to dentin and especially enamel. Lower bond strengths can lead to microleakage and restoration failure. Another issue with earlier resin cements was clean-up after curing. We have all had to spend too much time chiseling away excess cured resin after seating a restoration. With Multilink Automix Easy Clean-Up, you can spot cure each quarter of the tooth for 1-2 seconds, and the resin cement sets to a gel that is easily peeled away from the tooth and restoration.

Would you recommend this product to other clinicians? If so, why?

Yes, this is a product that has had a great track record and now is even better with its Easy Clean-Up  version. With its versatility, it could be used for the cementation of 90 percent of the restorations in the office. Everyone needs a resin cement that is this good!
