Logicon 5.1, the only commercially available FDA-approved computer-aided radiographic caries diagnosis software, is a clinically proven tool that helps practitioners detect and treat interproximal caries at an early stage, enabling minimally invasive treatments. In fact, studies show that Logicon more than doubles dentists’ capability to find early caries in the dentin over traditional visual diagnostic methods.*

“Radiographs captured using the new enhancements of Logicon 5.1 serve as a reference for practitioners to help identify caries and prevent misdiagnosis of healthy teeth,” Ed Shellard, DMD, chief commercial officer, Carestream Dental, said. “New features include Doctor’s Diagnosis and PreScan. These latest software improvements further enhance the detection process.”

With Doctor’s Diagnosis, clinicians can manually examine multiple potential carious sites/surfaces on a single radiographic image. All of the caries outlines on the radiograph can be displayed at once for more efficient treatment planning and patient education.

Another new feature, PreScan, scans a radiographic image and applies a detection algorithm on all eligible interproximal surfaces to generate a view of potential caries, helping users verify manual findings by focusing on surfaces that need further investigation. With just a few clicks, the practitioner can then build a screen of selected PreScan results and manual calculations of their own.

Logicon 5.1 also features a special automatic sharpening filter, which brightens enamel and enhances potential caries sites. This filter enhances only the display image while the software analyzes the raw image file to preserve the maximum number of shades of gray for caries detection analysis.

“What’s great about Logicon 5.1 is that it enables dentists to build one screen showing all analyses in one quadrant of a bitewing or PA radiograph for easier patient communication,” David Gakenheimer, Ph.D., product line manager, Logicon, Carestream Dental, said. “The program’s dramatic graphics and visual aids help communicate a diagnosis to patients in a way they can easily understand-so they are more likely to accept a doctor’s treatment recommendations.”

Logicon is clinically proven to help dentists quickly find up to 20 percent more interproximal caries on permanent teeth**. The technology is exclusive to Carestream Dental RVG sensors. PreScan is available with the RVG 6100, 6200 and 6500 sensors; the basic Logicon 5.1 program can still be used with all previous generation RVG sensors, which includes the capability to display multiple surface results on one image.

Carestream Dental is exhibiting in booth #3801 at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting. Show attendees can stop by Carestream Dental’s booth to learn more about CS SoftDent and CS PracticeWorks, now available in the Cloud!
