The unit uses a highly precise digital spectrometer that rests directly on the tooth or restoration and white LED color-corrected lighting to determine tooth shade regardless of surrounding lighting or other environmental conditions or operator subjectivity. Lightweight and portable, the second-generation unit is designed to measure an overall tooth shade or provide a sectioned map of a tooth’s cervical, middle, and incisal areas. The organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays value, chroma, and hue parameters to allow for shade adjustments during restoration buildup. Up to 25 shade measurements can be stored using the device’s built-in memory.
