BIOMET 3i And 3Shape Collaborate To Provide Dental Laboratory-Designed Patient Specific Abutments For Implant Dentistry

Palm Beach Gardens, FL - (February 13, 2009) - BIOMET 3i and 3Shape A/S have entered into a collaborative relationship to provide dental laboratories with the unique ability to design patient specific abutments through the use of D-250™ and D-640™ Dental 3D Scanners, DentalDesigner™, AbutmentDesigner™ CAD Software and ARCHITECH PSR® Computer-aided Manufacturing.

Synergy with 3Shape and BIOMET 3i

This integrated approach allows dental laboratories to have control over implant abutment design and submit orders electronically to the BIOMET 3i PSR Department for the fabrication of Encode® Lab-designed Abutments. This new process eliminates the need to physically package and ship orders to BIOMET 3i and reduces in-house processing time. The Encode Lab-designed Abutments will be sold at a discounted price.

3Shape Scanners, available through BIOMET 3i and other suppliers, are used to create accurate 3D scans of dies/stumps, inlay preparations, bridge preparations, bites/antagonists, wax-ups and full dental casts. Most recently, 3Shape has introduced the add-on module, AbutmentDesigner™. Existing 3Shape Scanner users will be able to obtain a trial version or purchase the AbutmentDesigner™ upgrade directly from their supplier. With the supplier's consent, the upgrade comes complete with the BIOMET 3i Library consisting of implants, scanning cap and abutment connection geometry, abutment screw and access hole images.
